Axially loaded piles
Yue Choong KogA comprehensive discussion of various methods, including empirical methods for estimating the load carrying capacities and pile top settlements of axially loaded piles and pile groups in soils and single piles on rock is presented in this chapter. Several illustrative examples for different design approaches for the design of a bored pile in compression based on laboratory test results using α and β methods and a structure subjected to an upward water pressure to be resisted by tension piles are presented. Illustrative examples of estimating load carrying capacity of driven and bored piles using modified Meyerhof equation are included. Illustrative examples for estimating pile top settlement of pile groups using elastic load transfer theory and empirical method are also included.
