Abstract

Optical Coherence Tomography (OCT) enables non-invasive skin imaging, but image quality and repeatability depend on stable probe positioning. This work presents a compact, portable, contactless automated OCT probe-positioning system to reduce operator-dependent variability. The system integrates a custom probe holder, a time-of-flight distance sensor, and a motorized linear actuator in a closed-loop control scheme to maintain a predefined probe-to-skin distance during image acquisition. A tolerance band mitigates the effects of sensor noise and measurement fluctuations, enabling robust operation. Experiments on human volunteers demonstrate reliable distance control and improved image stability compared to manual operation, enhancing the consistency of OCT imaging in clinical settings.
