Astronomy and astrophysics: Planet formation around multiple stars

Professor Nicolás Cuello explores crafting worlds illuminated by many suns in this astronomy and astrophysics focus. When we picture the birth of a planetary system, it is tempting to imagine a younger version of our own Solar System: a young Sun surrounded by a disc of gas and dust where material gradually assembles into planets. This is the classical picture of planet formation, where planets end up orbiting their parent star on a given plane, often referred to as the ecliptic plane.
