BSTRACT

Background:

Dyslipidemia is highly prevalent and it is one of modifiable risk factors for cardiovascular and cerebrovascular disease. High cholesterol levels are estimated to cause 18% of stroke and 56% of ischemic heart disease that accounted to 4.4 million deaths, annually worldwide. Jatharagni (digestive fire) is prime among 13 types of Agni . When any derangement occurs in Jatharagni , it will lead to various metabolic disorders at various levels.

Aim:

The study aimed to establish association between Jatharagni derangement and dyslipidaemia.

Materials and Methods:

As this was a case–control study, a total of 70 subjects having age between 18 and 60 years and diagnosed case of dyslipidemia with chronicity of maximum 1 year were recruited. Age and gender match apparently healthy individual were selected in equal number (70). Jatharagni was assessed in both groups along with other lifestyle factors. Obtained data were analyzed by Odds Ratio, Confidence Interval (CI), Logistic Regression Analysis, and Chi-square Test.

Results:

Odds ratio with 95% CI for Tikshanagni, Mandagni, and Vishamagni were found 30.32 (6.88–133.53) ( P < 0.001), 27.60 (3.58–212.4) ( P < 0.0014), and 7.66 (0.91–64.66) ( P < 0.0600), respectively.

Conclusion:

On the basis of these results, this can be concluded that there is a positive association between Jathargni derangement and dyslipidemia.
