Alexander Musyal, Zoya Latysheva, Elena Skripkina, Natalya Shkileva, Danil ZyukinThe article discusses the development of the agro-industrial complex of the Kursk region in the context of growing external threats in the period 2021-2025. The Kursk region is one of the largest agricultural production regions, and therefore makes a significant contribution to ensuring food security in the central part of Russia. Over the past few years, the agricultural production of the region has faced a number of difficulties, both economic and political, which is related, among other things, to the border position of the region, which creates corresponding risks. In the course of the work, it was suggested that the aggravation of the political situation in the border region had a significant negative impact on the success of the agro-industrial complex in the region, contributing to a decrease in agricultural production and structural changes in the industry. The verification of the formed assumption was carried out on the basis of an analysis of the dynamics of key indicators of the development of agricultural production in the Kursk region in 2021-2025 using official statistical data and scientific methods and research approaches. It was found that in the agro-industrial complex of the Kursk region in 2024-2025. There has been a significant stagnation associated with the increased influence of unfavorable external factors: the physical volume of agricultural products has decreased by 7% over the past 2 years, and by more than 16% compared to the data of 2021. The identified trends confirm the assumption made in the framework of the study that the aggravation of the political situation in the border region had a significant negative impact on the success of the agro-industrial complex of the Kursk region, contributing to a decrease in agricultural production and structural changes in the industry. The agricultural sector of the Kursk region continues to function today in conditions of economic and political instability, and therefore its development opportunities are determined by the degree to which new tasks and challenges are being addressed.
