Assessing the impact of joint ventures in russian preferential regimes on the development of host regions

Li Mei Sun

This article presents the results of a study examining the issue of increasing the effectiveness of joint ventures under Russian preferential regimes. It is established that, compared to traditional enterprises, their establishment and operation have fundamentally different specifics in terms of the institutional environment, management practices, technological competencies, and financial resources. The need for adequate methodological approaches to assessing their impact on the socioeconomic development of host regions is substantiated. Using the example of Russian-Chinese entrepreneurship in the Russian Far East regions of the Advanced Development Areas (ADAs) and the Free Port of Vladivostok (FPV), a methodological toolkit has een developed to provide a causal assessment of its contribution to regional development, based on a combi- nation of modern econometric methods of synthetic control and propensity matching.
