Assessing Life Cycle Cost from the Perspective of Climate Change: A Systematic Review and Bibliometric Analysis

Gülşah Kazak
Climate change has a major impact on activities in all sectors and the costs involved. These effects lead to economic consequences and are also important for environmental sustainability. Because of this, using resources efficiently, encouraging sustainable production and consumption, and reducing the effects of climate change are now key goals in environmental policy. Strategies that address climate change have become essential for reaching these goals. As a result, sectors need to include climate change in their cost analyses to stay competitive. This study aims to analyze scientific approaches to Life Cycle Costing (LCC) with a specific focus on the implications and integration of climate change. The review covers 1,427 publications published from 1994 to 2025. The publications examined in the study were obtained from the Web of Science database. Bibliometric analysis, along with a systematic literature search, was conducted to support the study findings. The review covered 1,427 publications from 1994 to 2025. There was a sharp rise in publications after 2015, showing that more researchers are interested in including climate change in life cycle cost analysis. The bibliometric analysis found that most research on the link between life cycle cost and climate change, when viewed broadly, comes from China and the United States. The results show that sustainability concerns strongly influence life cycle cost assessments from a climate change perspective. Studies on environmental costs highlight that including climate change impacts in these calculations can give sectors a long-term competitive edge.
