Asian Americans In The Workplace

Bryan L. Rogers, Laura T. Madden, Enping (Shirley) Mai, Mi Hwa Lee

Asian Americans represent sizeable part of the United States labor force who are often characterized as being the hard-working and successful model minority. As the so-called model minority, Asian Americans are often considered too successful to be discriminated like other minority groups, which is perhaps how they have become “forgotten minorities” in management research. We aim to review current understanding of Asian Americans in the workplace, specifically regarding Asian American stereotypes, discrimination in management practice, and the bamboo ceiling. Furthermore, we suggest potential topics for future researchers to further our understanding of Asian American employees.
