Artificial Intelligence and Gamified Music Education
Daniel AbrahamsAbstract
This chapter examines the convergence of artificial intelligence (AI), gamification, and music education, exploring how AI-enhanced gamified environments can transform teaching and learning. Drawing on research from music education, cognitive science, game design, and educational technology, the chapter investigates how AI-driven platforms support skill development, personalized learning, creativity, student agency, and inclusive educational practices. The discussion is grounded in pedagogical frameworks including constructivism, reciprocal teaching, flow theory, deliberate practice, and social-emotional learning. Practical examples of contemporary music-learning technologies illustrate how adaptive feedback, game mechanics, and learner-centered design can foster engagement and musical growth. The chapter also considers ethical challenges related to data privacy, equity, cultural responsiveness, and teacher agency. Ultimately, it presents a framework for understanding the pedagogical potential and limitations of AI-enhanced gamification in music education.
