Applications of the Concept of Racism and Racialization in the Ancient World

Katherine Yang

The inequality between races is a strongly manifested phenomenon in modern society. However, when and where this concept originates from is a constant and continuous controversy. How could race and racism exist in antiquity without specific terminologies? By analyzing primary sources from Ancient times (e.g. from Aristotle and Hippocrates) and synthesizing secondary sources from scholars (Benjamin Isaac, Martin P. Nilsson, etc.) in the field of history, this article discusses the applications of the Concept of Racism and Racialization in the Ancient World. It is also uncovered in this paper the reason and importance of investigating the ideology in the past.
