Application of Rare Earth Ion (Tb, Gd) Doped MnFe 2 O 4 Nanoparticles for Magnetic Hyperthermia
Angel T. Apostolov, Iliana N. Apostolova, Julia M. WesselinowaSpinel ferrite‐based magnetic nanomaterials have attracted considerable attention for a wide range of biomedical applications, particularly in magnetic hyperthermia. The physical properties of MnFe 2 O 4 (MFO) can be effectively tailored through ion doping, which broadens its potential applicability. In the present study, pure and ion‐doped MFO nanoparticles were investigated for the first time by employing a modified Heisenberg model in combination with Green’s function theory. Our results indicate that biocompatible Tb‐ and Gd‐doped MFO nanoparticles with a diameter of d = 20 nm exhibit Curie temperatures T C of 315 and 317 K, respectively. In addition, these nanoparticles demonstrate enhanced magnetization, coercive field, and specific absorption rate values. These results indicate that Tb‐ and Gd‐doped MFO nanoparticles possess magnetic characteristics suitable for magnetic hyperthermia.
