Application of artificial intelligence in medical English translation

Rong Yi

Abstract

Artificial intelligence in medical English translation has attracted increasing attention. It has the potential to improve translation efficiency and accuracy. However, its application also involves technological and data limitations, ethical and legal risks, and challenges in human‑machine coordination. This review summarizes the application of artificial intelligence in clinical documentation, international medical communication, and medical literature translation; examines advances in specialized large models, privacy protection, and multimodal adaptation; and discusses current challenges and future developments. It concludes that artificial intelligence can support medical English translation, but its reliable application requires further model optimization, stronger data protection and regulatory frameworks, and professional human review.
