Application and Research Progress of Traditional Chinese Medicine in the Treatment of Digestive System Diseases
Kai-Chun Jiang, You-You Peng, Yong-Hao Zhu, Zhi-Liang Jiang, Xin-Ying JiIntroduction:
Digestive system diseases are globally prevalent, affecting patients' quality of life. Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM) shows unique potential in its prevention and treatment.
Methods:
This review systematically analyzes relevant literature to elaborate on TCM's application in digestive system diseases, including theoretical foundations, herbal medications, clinical efficacy, and modern research progress.
Results:
TCM targets pathological mechanisms via Yin-Yang/Five Elements theory and Zang-Fu theory; common herbs (e.g., Ginseng, Houttuynia cordata) exhibit efficacy in gastric, intestinal, and liver-gallbladder diseases. Clinical trials confirm TCM's effectiveness in conditions like gastroesophageal reflux disease (GERD) and ulcerative colitis (UC).
Discussion:
TCM's multi-component, multi-target advantages complement conventional therapy, but standardization and mechanism research remain insufficient.
Conclusion:
TCM provides valuable therapeutic options for digestive diseases; further standardized trials and mechanistic studies are needed to promote its clinical adoption.
