Abstract

Dyslipidemia, a major risk factor for cardiovascular diseases (CVDs), is characterized by abnormal lipid metabolism, typically presenting as elevated triglycerides, total cholesterol, low-density lipoprotein, and/or decreased high-density lipoprotein. In the Unani (Greco-Arabic) system of medicine, dyslipidemia is understood as a disturbance in the body’s humoral equilibrium, specifically attributed to Sū’-i-Mizāj balghamī (abnormal phlegmatic temperament), which leads to fat accumulation in the blood, contributing to hyperlipidemia and obesity. This case report presents the case of a 48-year-old hypertensive, nondiabetic, and euthyroid female with a known history of dyslipidemia, who reported symptoms of joint pain, weight gain, and palpitations. After baseline investigations, the patient was treated with Sikanjabīn lemūnī (lemon oxymel). Over the course of three follow-up visits, significant improvements were noted in her lipid profile. This case highlights the potential efficacy of Sikanjabīn lemūnī (lemon oxymel) in improving lipid parameters and alleviating clinical manifestations associated with dyslipidemia.
