ABSTRACT

The current study investigates the bioactive compounds, anti‐acne, and antidiabetic profiling of Murraya koenigii (L.) Spreng. ( M. koenigii) fruits. The bioactive profiling evaluated using GC–MS and UHPLC‐QTOF‐MS analysis identified 64 volatile compounds, and 74 major secondary metabolites. The α‐amylase inhibitory assay showed IC 50 value of 0.97 µL/mL for oval fruit, and 9.67 µL/mL for round fruit. The α‐glucosidase inhibitory assay showed an IC 50 value of 1.62 µL/mL for oval fruit, and 3.90 µL/mL. The DPP‐IV inhibitor activity was 0.74% for oval and 1.37% for round fruits. Insulin secretion assay showed 265.09 U/mL cell lysate for oval fruits, and 272.55 U/mL cell lysate for round fruits, as compared to control cells without treatment (156.55 U/mL cell lysate). Glucose uptake assay on the L6‐cell line for oval fruits extract was 196.15 µg/mL compared to control (506.48 µg/mL) and 206 µg/mL for round fruit extract. Cytotoxicity assay showed IC 50 values of 392.2 ± 0.16 µg/mL and 412.2 ± 0.13 µg/mL for oval and round fruit extracts, respectively. Both types of fruit extract did not show any toxic effects. According to the findings, M. koenigii fruits may be a valuable natural source of bioactive compounds that have anti‐acne and antidiabetes properties.
