Anthropometric Analysis and Assessment of Patient Satisfaction Using Rhinoplasty Outcome Evaluation Questionnaire and NOSE Score in Patients Undergoing Rhinoplasty

Introduction:

Anthropometry, derived from Greek origins, loosely translates to measuring the man. The quest for an ‘optimal nose’ that is not just functional but also aesthetically pleasing to the eye is as old as civilisation itself. Nasal analysis is the first and foremost step in performing a rhinoplasty. Indirect methods of nasal analysis include clinical photography, 2D cephalogram, 3D stereophotograph, 3D laser scanning and computerised tomography.

Rhinoplasty for a surgeon is where science meets art.

Methods and Materials:

A prospective single-centre descriptive case series of 15 patients ( N = 15) who underwent rhinoplasty for nasal deformity resulting from varying pathologies. Demographic and clinical characteristics and photographs of all patients were recorded, followed by non-contrast computed tomography-guided anthropometric measurement at our institution over a period of 1 year from June 2023 to June 2024. All patients were assessed using the Rhinoplasty Outcome Evaluation (ROE) and Nasal Obstruction Symptom Evaluation (NOSE) questionnaires pre- and postoperatively.

Results:

In the context of aesthetic analysis, ROE results showed statistically significant results with high patient satisfaction postoperatively. The preoperative ROE score was 36.2 ± 8.9, which increased to 89.6 ± 11 postoperatively ( P < .001).

The preoperative NOSE score was found to be 83.7 ± 11.4 and postoperatively decreased to 33.7 ± 9.3, representing a statistically significant difference ( P < .001).

Conclusion:

Nasal anthropometry offers objective data essential for planning surgery.

This in turn achieves better surgical results leading to higher rates of patient satisfaction.
