Anode‐Free Alkali Metal Batteries Under Extreme Temperatures

ABSTRACT

Anode‐free alkali metal batteries (AFAMBs) have attracted considerable interest as promising candidates for next‐generation energy storage systems, owing to their high energy density and simplified manufacturability. Extending their reversible and stable operation to low‐temperature (LT) and high‐temperature (HT) environments is crucial for their practical application. In this review, the fundamental failure mechanisms of AFAMBs under LT/HT are first elucidated. Recent advances in LT/HT‐AFAMBs are then systematically summarized, with an emphasis on extracting key design principles and strategies to guide practical implementation. Finally, current research bottlenecks are identified, and several promising directions for future development are proposed. This review aims to provide a comprehensive understanding of strategies for LT/HT‐AFAMBs while offering a timely overview of recent progress in this rapidly evolving field, thereby facilitating the development and practical application of wide‐temperature AFAMBs.
