Aims: A short iliopsoas muscle, which is the primary flexor of the hip joint, has been associated with a smaller femoral neck anteversion (FNA) angle. However, no studies examining the relationship between iliopsoas muscle volume/surface area and FNA were found in the literature. Therefore, the aim of this study was to investigate this relationship. Methods: This study used 3D Slicer software to import abdominopelvic (including the knee joint) computed tomography (CT) images of 90 individuals and to automatically calculate the iliopsoas muscle’s volume and surface area. The FNA was measured manually on the CT scans using Radiant software. Results: While iliopsoas muscle volume and surface area were found to be larger in males than in females, no significant difference was found between genders in FNA values. A positive correlation was found between bilateral iliopsoas muscle parameters and both FNAs in males, and between bilateral iliopsoas muscle volume and the right FNA in females. Conclusion: This study has presented new data on the relationship between the volume and surface area of the iliopsoas muscle and the FNA. The findings of this study may guide future research and help orthopedic and physical therapy clinicians with diagnosis and treatment.
