ABSTRACT

Maintaining an updated list of and analyzing new and revised microbial taxa originating from non-domestic animal species are considered important annual endeavors. As researchers continue to investigate complex microbiota in animal and environmental samples, it is critical that findings are accessible to all with an interest in wildlife animal species. Herein, data concerning novel bacterial taxa and taxonomic revisions of bacteria derived from non-domestic wildlife specimens that were published in peer-reviewed literature and/or accepted during 2025 are summarized and analyzed. While few of the newly identified or accepted bacteria are associated with clinical disease in the host of origin, some are closely related to bacteria that have been implicated in disease or opportunistic infections. Others may contribute valuable information toward future research involving probiotics, antimicrobial resistance, metabolic health, detoxification, and the degradation of toxic materials. Notable bacteria include Helicobacter cappadocius sp. nov., the first species of psychrotrophic Helicobacter , and Limosilactobacillus allomucosae sp. nov., which has potential for use as a probiotic in domestic pigs.
