An Overview of Nursing Practice

This editorial outlines the scope of contemporary nursing practice: the standards, legal regulations and ICN pillars that govern it, the principle of beneficence, nursing theory as a framework for holistic care, patient advocacy and the barriers to it, individualised care, inter-professional partnership, telenursing and informatics, and the influence of night-shift work on error rates. It introduces the study on nurses' practice of bedside shift reports published in this issue.
