With the increasing proportion of renewable energy integration, the supply–demand balance of the power system is becoming increasingly difficult to maintain. Deploying energy storage as a flexible resource to enhance system regulation capability is key to ensuring the stable operation of high‐renewable‐penetration power systems. However, the energy throughput of energy storage flexible resources is fully controllable, and different action strategies affect both the regulation effectiveness of the energy storage system and its own life degradation. Achieving refined regulation of energy storage based on specific problem analysis is of great significance for the safe and efficient operation of high‐renewable‐penetration power systems. Therefore, based on the characteristics of power system supply–demand imbalance events, this paper proposes an optimal dispatch method that incorporates the selection between pre‐intervention and post‐remediation strategies for energy storage. First, the impacts of the two energy storage action strategies (pre‐intervention and post‐remediation) on system regulation capability enhancement and operational economy are analysed. Then, a selection method and control process for intraday energy storage operation strategies are proposed. Finally, an optimal dispatch model that accounts for the choice of energy storage action mode is constructed. Through comparative case studies, the total cost of the proposed optimal dispatch method is reduced by 3.86% and 31.8%, respectively, compared with the single pre‐intervention and post‐remediation methods across different scenarios, while excessive energy storage life degradation is avoided. These results verify the effectiveness of the proposed method.
