The increasing accessibility of 3D printing allows chemical educators to produce customized molecular models, laboratory devices, and other teaching tools that address specific curricular needs and promote hands-on engagement. However, the workflows involved in creating digital designs and transforming them into physical objects can be intimidating for those with limited experience. This chapter introduces the major 3D printing technologies, computer-aided design (CAD) tools, common fabrication materials, and key parameters required to create effective classroom and laboratory resources. It also addresses important safety considerations, including air quality precautions and other protective measures associated with desktop prototyping. The goal is to provide educators with the foundational knowledge and practical guidance needed to explore 3D printing projects that enrich student learning.
