An Epidemiological Study to Assess Knowledge, Attitude and Practices Related to Maxillofacial Defects and their Prosthetic Rehabilitation among Dental Professionals in Jammu Region
Reecha Gupta, Raman Kumar, Parveen Akhter LoneTo assess the knowledge, attitude, and practices (KAP) related to Maxillofacial defects and their prosthetic rehabilitation among dental professionals in the Jammu region. A cross-sectional questionnaire-based epidemiological study was conducted among 320 dental professionals, including BDS graduates, MDS postgraduates, and dental practitioners in Jammu region. A structured pre-validated questionnaire to assess awareness, attitude, referral practices, barriers, and knowledge regarding recent advances in maxillofacial prosthetic rehabilitation was prepared and circulated. Data was analyzed using SPSS version 20 with descriptive statistics and Chi-square test. Most participants demonstrated awareness regarding maxillofacial prosthodontics and showed positive attitudes toward rehabilitation and digital technologies. MDS professionals and private practitioners exhibited comparatively higher knowledge and referral practices. Significant associations were observed between professional status and KAP parameters (p < 0.001). Although general awareness was satisfactory, gaps in practical exposure and advanced knowledge remain among certain groups of dental professionals. Further educational programs and training workshops are recommended to improve interdisciplinary rehabilitation practices.
