An Ecological Suitability Evaluation System to Assess Urban Green Space

Abstract

Under the guidance of the policy of building park city, this study takes the green space of Chengdu city center as the research object and constructs an ecological suitability evaluation system for green space in Chengdu city center based on multiple dimensions of the natural environment and the social environment, with full consideration of the comprehensive benefits of urban green space. The ecological suitability evaluation system for green spaces in central Chengdu is constructed based on multiple dimensions of the natural and social environments. The evaluation method of spatial superposition analysis is applied with the help of ArcGIS tools to explore the ecological suitability of urban green spaces and their fit with planning and construction. Corresponding optimization suggestions and strategies are proposed based on the evaluation results, aiming to provide guidance for rationally optimizing the network of green space in central Chengdu and balancing the relationship between urban construction and green space. The results of the study show that (1) the ecological suitability index of green space in the urban center of Chengdu ranges from 0.813 to 3.856, the ecological suitability spatially indicates the distribution of low in the middle and high in the surroundings, there are obvious differences between the hotspots and the cold spots, most areas are in the high and medium ecological suitability, and the ecological suitability is the highest in the eastern Longquanshan area and lowest in the old urban area, which is dominated by the construction land. The ecological suitability of the Longquanshan area in the east is the highest, and that of the old city area, which is dominated by construction land, is the lowest. (2) According to the ecological suitability index from high to low, the green space of the Chengdu urban center is divided into five zones: high ecological suitability zone (122.59 km 2 , 3.06%), higher ecological suitability zone (847.68 km 2 , 21.15%), medium ecological suitability zone (2,004.91 km 2 , 50.02%), low ecological suitability zone (932.33 km 2 , 23.26%), lower ecological suitability zone (895.48 km 2 , 22.34%), and low ecological suitability zone (101.03 km 2 , 2.52%). (3) The impact of green space ecological suitability evaluation indicators is spatially heterogeneous, and different regions have their own advantages and disadvantages. The zoning results provide an important basis for the optimization of the green space in Chengdu’s central urban area, and in the future, we can explore the optimization of the green space in each region based on this spatial feature, reduce the spatial differences, and push forward the ecological integration of the development of each region. The results provide an important basis for the optimization of green spaces in Chengdu’s central city.
