An Appraisal of Gender Disparity in Rural Employment in West Bengal

Pijush Kanti Ghosh, Jayanta Dutta

In the framework of socioeconomic growth, female labour participation is a critical issue. The study uses district-level decadal data from the Census to examine trends and differences in women's employment involvement in West Bengal's rural areas. Agricultural region is one approach to understand the inter-districts disparity in rural female labour participation in West Bengal. Despite the fact that the majority of rural women worked in agriculture, their labour is still disregarded. The scarcity of resources and gender disparities are major challenges for them. In West Bengal, the amount of agricultural labour performed by women varies significantly by district. The study only focuses on understanding women's work involvement in rural areas, despite the fact that female engagement in the workforce is most closely associated with agriculture and related work in these areas.
