Agricultural Technology Transfer through Pusa Krishi Vigyan Mela: An Analysis
P. Punitha, Pratibha Joshi, A.K. Singh, N.V. Kumbhare, Nafees Ahmad, Y.P. Singh, R.S. MeenaAgricultural technology dissemination is crucial for enhancing farm productivity. One effective platform for this is the Pusa Krishi Vigyan Mela (PKVM), organized annually to showcase innovations through live demonstrations, seed sales, technical sessions, crop cafeterias, and exhibition stalls. To assess the PKVM, a study was conducted during PKVM 2025, focusing on farmers’ socio-economic profiles, perceptions, and satisfaction levels. The analysis revealed that 45 per cent of attendees were from Uttar Pradesh, and 42.15 per cent had collegiate-level education. About 40.19 per cent received information about the mela through peer farmers, KVK scientists, or agricultural officials. While 55 per cent were repeat visitors, 45 per cent attended for the first time. The overall satisfaction rate was 96.08 per cent, with 71.57 per cent attending to learn about new technologies and 65.05 per cent for seed purchases. Notably, repeat participants reported higher satisfaction levels. However, only 53.92 per cent attended technical sessions, indicating potential for improved engagement. Policy suggestions include leveraging peer networks, enhancing state-level coordination, and ensuring state support for farmer mobilization can further institutionalize technology transfer through such melas.
