Agricultural Aid and Women's Land Rights: Evidence From Côte d'Ivoire
Heshui Huang, Chuanhong ZhangABSTRACT
This study examines the association between agricultural aid exposure and local support for women's land rights in Côte d'Ivoire. Combining geocoded Afrobarometer data with agricultural project locations, we compare respondents near active aid projects with those near inactive project sites. We find that individuals near active projects are significantly more likely to support women's land rights. The relationship is stronger where agriculture plays a more central role in local livelihoods. The overall pattern remains consistent across alternative spatial thresholds and model specifications, indicating a geographically localized and context‐dependent relationship between agricultural aid and gender equality perceptions in land rights.
