Advancing thermostable mRNA formulations: progress toward cold chain independence

Neha Kaushal

Over the past decade, messenger RNA (mRNA) has transitioned from a promising experimental modality to a transformative therapeutic platform. The unprecedented global deployment of mRNA vaccines during the COVID-19 pandemic demonstrated the scalability, speed, and adaptability of this technology. However, it also exposed a fundamental limitation: a heavy reliance on stringent cold chain infrastructure. As the field now shifts from proof-of-concept to long-term global deployment, overcoming temperature sensitivity has become one of the most critical challenges in realizing the full potential of mRNA vaccines and therapeutics.
