Advances in Understanding the Mechanisms of Oxidative Stress in Infertile Obese Men
Jinlong Xie, Yan Zhang, Pingping Sun, Huagang MaObesity-related male infertility has emerged as a significant global health concern, impacting both reproductive ability and overall well-being in men. A critical factor in the pathogenesis of infertility among obese men is oxidative stress, which not only affects reproductive hormone levels, sperm quality, and the function of reproductive organs but also potentially worsens infertility through mechanisms such as inducing inflammatory responses and promoting cell apoptosis. Although there has been some progress in understanding how oxidative stress contributes to obesity-related male infertility, further investigations into its specific biological mechanisms and potential intervention strategies are needed. The aim of this review was to synthesize recent research advances on oxidative stress in the context of obesity-related male infertility, thereby providing a foundation for the development of new therapeutic approaches.
