Adsorption of Denim Dyeing Wastewater Using Clay

Elif Bahar Kılınç, Yakup Cuci
In this study, the treatment of denim dyeing wastewater using clay adsorption was investigated. Three different clay samples were analyzed in terms of their physical properties, including liquid limit, plastic limit, water holding capacity, and adsorption characteristics. Color removal efficiencies were examined in detail at different wavelengths (485 nm, 565 nm, 590 nm, and 640 nm). The results indicated that the clay sample with the lowest water holding capacity achieved approximately 85% color removal at pH 8 using an adsorbent dosage of 1.5 g. These findings demonstrate that clay can be considered an effective and low-cost adsorbent for the removal of dyes from textile wastewater.
