Aim

Comparing AHP-Bio (resin-modified bioceramic sealer) to AH Plus (epoxy resin-based sealer), and SEALMATE PRO (resin-based sealer), regarding push-out and shear bond strength tests.

Patients and method

Twenty-four human mandibular premolars with single roots were selected. The premolars underwent endodontic treatment. The specimens were randomly categorized into three groups (eight specimens each) depending on type of sealer employed. They were transversally sectioned at the cemento-enamel junction, as the roots were selected for push-out test, while the crowns were chosen for shear bond strength test. In the push-out test, 2 mm thick disc was prepared from each third of the root. However, for shear bond strength test, 2 × 3 mm specimen was prepared from coronal dentin, and followed by immediate or delayed placement of Tetric N-flow composite. Adhesive patterns for both tests were evaluated by stereomicroscope.

Results

The greatest push-out bond values were found at apical thirds, with the highest value represented in AHP-Bio group. Significant variations were recorded among the three sections in each sealer type ( P < 0.0001). Also, variations were noted among immediate and delayed obtained shear bond strengths in all tested sealers groups. The AH Plus sealer represented the greatest shear bond strength value (4.417 ± 0.5892) in case of immediate composite placement, while AHP-Bio sealer represented the highest value (8.515 ± 0.4771) after delayed composite placement.

Conclusion

AHP-Bio sealer showed better adhesion to radicular dentin and Tetric N-flow composite, regarding testing for push-out and shear bond strength.
