Abstract

Objective

This study investigates the addiction mechanisms and psychological underpinnings of mobile phone dependence among vocational college students within a home-school-medical-community collaborative framework, and explores effective intervention pathways integrating ideological education and addiction treatment approaches to address this behavioral addiction issue.

Subjects and Methods

A mixed-methods approach was employed with 850 students from 5 vocational colleges, including students meeting criteria for behavioral addiction. The study combined the Mobile Phone Addiction Scale, Internet Addiction Test, and Diagnostic Criteria for Behavioral Addictions assessment tools, along with psychological needs and self-regulation measurements. A 16-week intervention program was implemented, incorporating addiction counseling, cognitive-behavioral therapy, and multi-stakeholder support.

Results

The study identified significant addiction mechanisms: compulsive usage patterns (β = 0.71, p < 0.01), withdrawal symptoms (β = 0.63, p < 0.01), and tolerance development (β = 0.59, p < 0.01). The intervention program reduced addiction scores by 45% in the experimental group compared to 15% in controls. Participants showed significant improvement in addiction symptoms (p < 0.01) and reduction in addictive behaviors (p < 0.05). The collaborative model achieved 80% participant satisfaction and 40% reduction in relapse rates.

Conclusions

The collaborative model effectively addresses mobile phone addiction through integrated psychological and educational approaches. These findings highlight the importance of understanding addiction mechanisms and implementing comprehensive strategies to promote students' mental health and prevent behavioral addiction disorders.
