Acute angle-closure attack in a patient with bilateral ectopia lentis: A case report
Amit Bidasaria, Wadke Vidya ArunkumarEctopia lentis (EL) is a condition in which the natural crystalline lens is dislocated from its position in the pupillary area. This displacement may range from mild subluxation to complete dislocation. Common causes include hereditary diseases such as Marfan syndrome and homocystinuria, blunt trauma, and zonular weakness due to age, disease, or genetic predisposition. This case highlights that EL can pose a significant threat to vision if the lens shifts forward, leading to an angle-closure attack and synechial angle-closure glaucoma. Prompt recognition is critical to prevent irreversible vision loss, and timely management may eliminate the need for glaucoma filtration surgery and its associated risks.
