Active Loss Balance Scheme for Dual Inverters With Asymmetric Power Supplies Using Hybrid Partition Strategy
Junjie Hua, Zhen HuangThe dual inverter drive system with asymmetric DC‐link voltages is recognized for its multilevel output characteristics and superior waveform quality. However, it inherently suffers from severe switching loss imbalances between the two inverters, which leads to uneven thermal stress, accelerated device aging, and potential system instability. To address these challenges, this paper proposes an active loss balance scheme implemented via a dynamic hybrid modulation strategy based on a novel vector space partition method. By utilizing new asymmetric vector partition schemes to exploit redundant switching degrees of freedom, the proposed scheme actively regulates loss distribution. A two‐stage hybrid mechanism is developed to adaptively reconfigure modulation patterns, enabling the system to approach thermal equilibrium without significantly compromising the total harmonic distortion. Simulation results validate that the proposed active loss balance scheme successfully reduces both switching loss differences and total system losses throughout the evaluated operating range. © 2026 Institute of Electrical Engineers of Japan and Wiley Periodicals LLC.
