Christiana Iordanou

This article explores the concept of disenfranchised grief in relation to dramatherapy. This type of grief is largely unaddressed in dramatherapy and overall arts therapies literature, despite its relevance to many individuals who seek therapeutic support. This article reflects on how dramatherapy can support clients with disenfranchised grief. It offers a conceptual framework of disenfranchised grief. It discusses symbolic, embodied and ritualistic methods which can be applied when working through disenfranchised grief. It further synthesizes relevant therapeutic approaches that can inform dramatherapy practice with individuals who experience this type of grief.
