Accounting Curriculum Comparison by Degree Program of Schools Intending to Seek AACSB Accreditation.

Abstract

The American Assembly of Collegiate Schools of Business (AACSB) has recently established separate accreditation standards for accounting programs. The purpose of this study was to derive Information regarding the Intention of schools to seek such accreditation and the nature of the accounting programs in schools seeking accreditation. Questionnaires were mailed to accounting department chairpersons at all 223 AACSB-accredited business schools. Fifty-two percent responded. Results of the study indicate that there Is a strong interest in seeking accreditation. Curriculum content generally appears to be at least one required course, regardless of the type of degree, for each of the topic areas specified by the AACSB accounting standards. There are exceptions which are Identified in the results of the study section.
