Hise O. Gibson, Liat Shapiro, MaShon WilsonAbstract
This chapter introduces the ACES (Assess, Cultivate, Evaluate, Strategize) framework, a structured approach to help veterans transition into the civilian workforce by navigating organizational dynamics and addressing the psychological skills required for successful adaptation. Drawing on principles of organizational leadership, the ACES framework guides veterans through assessing organizational culture, cultivating a positive mindset, engaging in continuous learning, and strategizing for long-term success. The chapter also underscores the importance of proactive engagement with organizational structures and mentors while emphasizing that the transition is not solely the veteran’s responsibility but a shared process with veteran-friendly organizations. By embracing the ACES framework, veterans can build resilience and adaptability, ensuring a smoother transition into civilian employment.
