North Carolina faces surging demand for nursing care alongside accelerating retirements of its most experienced nurses and faculty, threatening access to care and the future of the workforce itself, especially in rural areas. We outline strategies to recognize, retain, and reengage aging nurses, an essential segment of the workforce.
