A Synopsis.
Herbert E. MillerAbstract
The article presents information about the author and his career as a college professor in accounting. Accounting was given no thought until the author happened to elect the introductory course in his junior year as a liberal arts student at the University of Iowa. He enjoyed the course so much, that he decided to chance the risky and enroll in the intermediate course. Thus the master's degree program was undertaken in order to complete his accounting education. With retirement so close, the author wonders whether there is anything that can be learned from his lifetime as an academic accountant. He believes that one of his behavior patterns that contributed much to his professional development and to the sum total of personal satisfactions was a willingness to respond to opportunities to become involved in and work for professional organizations, such as the American Accounting Association and the Federation of Schools of Accountancy. He asks the younger academicians not to turn down an opportunity to become involved in the affairs of professional associations, and be willing to devote time, energy, and talent in their behalf.
