Jiin Hwang, Jongwoo Park

Purpose: The purpose of this study was to emprircally analyze the influence of cultural intelligence on cooperative behaviors among hotel employees, with a focus on the mediating roles of self-efficacy and collective efficacy. Through this analysis, this study seeks to derive practical and academic implications for promoting cooperative behaviors in hospitality organizations by strengthening employees’ psychological resources. Methods: The collected data from a survey of 266 hospitality service employees at H Hotel were empirically analyzed. Results: The results of this study are as follows; cultural intelligence was found to have a positive effect on cooperative behaviors. In addition, self-efficacy and collective efficacy were found to significantly mediate this relationship. These findings suggest that innate personality traits and clearly defined roles in the hospitality industry are important in promoting cooperative behaviors. Interestingly, this study also highlights that high collective efficacy may lead to groupthink, as suggested by Janis(1972). This is consistent with the assertion of Earley and Ang(2003) that individuals with high cultural intelligence tend to exhibit more flexible behaviors and form more cooperative task relationships. Conclusion: The results of this study confirm that cultural intelligence positively influences cooperative behaviors through the mediating effects of self-efficacy and collective efficacy. This suggests that, to promote cooperative behaviors in the hosptality industry, it is necessary to accumulation of achievement experiences. However, since this study used limited variables and a sample confined to a single hotel brand, future research should examine more diverse samples and test extended research models.
