A study of the new fragment of Bodhisattva-gocaropāya-viṣaya-vikurvaṇa-nirdeśa Sūtra in Old Uyghur

Tursunjan Imin, Abdurehim Rustem
This paper presents the critical edition of a previously unstudied Old Uyghur manuscript fragment (D1150) housed in the Dunhuang Academy. This fragment, written in kursiv Uyghur script and consisting of 18 lines, corresponds to the verses on ‘praise of the perfection of patience’ from the third chapter of the Chinese Bodhisattva-gocaropāya-viṣaya-vikurvaṇa-nirdeśa Sūtra大薩遮尼乾子所說經dà sàzhē nígān zǐ suōshuō jīng in the Taishō Tripiṭaka. Although both surviving Old Uyghur fragments of this sūtra lack colophons, making it impossible to determine whether the translation predates the Yuan dynasty, the cursive script and orthographic features of D1150 suggest it was copied during the Yuan period.
