A Single‐Feed Quad‐Beam Agile Antenna Using Reconfigurable Beam Forming Network Featuring Half‐Wavelength Microstrip Lines

This paper proposes a single‐feed quad‐beam agile array antenna. The proposed antenna includes two patch antenna elements and a switchable beam‐forming network based on a shared transmission‐line architecture with four selectable excitation points. Unlike conventional switched‐line phase shifters requiring multiple dedicated delay lines, the switchable beam‐forming network can switch the phase among , 0, 90 and 180 between the antenna elements while reducing the complexity of the switching network. As a result, two tilted beams, sum, and difference patterns are generated from the same single‐feed structure. A 5.8‐GHz band prototype antenna is constructed to validate the concept through experimental demonstration. The measured outcomes affirm the validity of the concept, showcasing a good agreement between the simulated and measured results.
