A Rare Case Report of Congenital Hairy Polyp of Soft Palate
Lakshmi Agarwal, Kalpit Jain, Rajendra Lalani, Manmohan AgrawalCongenital hairy polyp (CHP) is a rare benign tumor composed of ectodermal and mesodermal elements that arises during early embryogenesis. The most common sites are the oropharynx and nasopharynx. The symptoms depend on the size and location of the polyp. It presents in neonates with symptoms like airway obstruction, feeding difficulties, and respiratory distress. Early diagnosis and treatment decrease the morbidity of the patients. Histopathological examination is crucial to distinguish it from teratomas, hamartomas, and dermoid cysts. Complete surgical excision is the definitive treatment. We report a case of CHP of the soft palate, which is an unusual site.
