A Rare Case: Elastofibroma Dorsi Caused by Diaphyseal Aclasis
Hüseyin Alper Kızıloğlu, Suat Kubat Elastofibroma dorsi is a benign, easily identifiable thoracic wall mass that is typically observed in older individuals. Chronic friction is considered the main mechanism in the development of elastofibroma dorsi. Diaphyseal aclasis is a syndrome characterized by the development of multiple osteochondromas in various bones, beginning in childhood. To the best of our knowledge, this case report is the first in the literature to describe the coexistence of these two entities in the same patient, with a possible causal relationship between them (elastofibroma dorsi and osteochondroma). A 13-year-old male patient with diaphyseal aclasis was evaluated for a newly developed, painful swelling in the right posterolateral thoracic wall. Radiological evaluation revealed an osteochondroma in the subscapular fossa of the scapula. The lesion described on physical examination was consistent with elastofibroma dorsi. This rare coexistence, described for the first time in the literature, may support the hypothesis that chronic friction contributes to the development of elastofibroma dorsi. Additionally, the presence of elastofibroma dorsi in a pediatric patient with diaphyseal aclasis has not been previously reported.
