A PLEA FOR CAUTION WHEN DRAFTING OR SIGNING INTERNATIONAL AGREEMENTS

The middle of the twentieth century has seen the gradual spread and entrenchment of ideas and ways of doing things in a very striking and similar style that seemed to make all countries of the world alike(globalization) in their culture, commercial practices, military structure, legal systems, media and entertainment and even sports. These growing similarities have led some people to believe that since the world has been globalized in virtually all social ethos, then the laws of all countries of the world have to be built on the same global set of values, and where the underlying of certain legal’ systems differ from these expectations, they are then judged by the so-called global values either affirmed or rejected. Globalization of legal norms particularly in the areas of human rights treaties and conventions has led to the manufacture of numerous laws on wide range issues, some of which are sensible, while many others are quite frivolous, or even contrary to the principles of Sharia and therefore, unacceptable to the Muslims.
