ABSTRACT

Induction heating (IH) technology is widely used in domestic cooking applications due to its speed, efficiency, and reliability. In IH cooktops, resonant inverter circuits are commonly preferred because of their soft‐switching capability. Among these topologies, the half‐bridge series resonant (HBSR) inverter is particularly suitable for applications requiring high performance and high power. This study proposes a new design methodology for HBSR inverters used in domestic IH cooktops. The method starts with user‐defined input parameters, including input power, input voltage, quality factor, and operating frequency. Unlike conventional approaches, the proposed model provides a simplified, verifiable, and practical calculation method for AC‐fed systems. Using the predefined input parameters, the method calculates the maximum power drawn from the source, the maximum and RMS coil currents, and the maximum current and voltage stresses of the semiconductor switch. Based on these values, the key resonant tank parameters, namely, equivalent resistance , equivalent inductance , and resonant capacitance , are determined. The calculated resonant circuit values were verified through both simulation and experimental implementation, confirming the accuracy and applicability of the proposed design methodology.
