A New Look at the Ritual of Palliya (CTH 475)
Gary BeckmanAbstract
A new edition of a ritual performed for the Storm-god Teššup by King Palliya of Kizzuwatna (later Classical Cilicia), certainly one of the compositions comprising the wave of Hurro-Luwian influence from this region on the Hittite royal cult early in the New Kingdom. The verbs in the beginning of the text are in the preterite tense, which befits the description of the past actions of Palliya, but soon they shift into the present-future in setting forth the prescriptive rite to be performed in Hatti.
