A Modified High‐Frequency Phase‐Shifted Full‐Bridge Converter With Extended Range ZVS for Induction Heating Applications

This paper presents a cost‐effective modified high‐frequency phase‐shifted full‐bridge converter for induction heating (IH) applications. The high switching frequency of the proposed inverter enhances the heating process by increasing eddy currents. In addition, the proposed converter benefits from a wide zero‐voltage switching operating range, facilitated by phase‐shift control. The high inductance coil, referred to the primary side and used as the resonant tank, ensures soft‐switching operation of the transistors even at light loads without requiring additional components. Moreover, this study addresses the limitations of conventional IH topologies, such as series LC and LLC resonant converters, by utilizing a simple structure with reduced computational burden. Furthermore, the converter employs non‐sinusoidal output currents to introduce higher harmonic components, thereby improving surface temperature rise. Finally, experimental results obtained from a laboratory prototype validate the effectiveness of the proposed inverter.
