A Dao of Artificial Intelligence (AI) in Music Education

Abstract

The concept of dao is elucidated in this chapter based on the foundation of an organismic worldview, change, and unchanging principles. Everything has its own dao, including heaven, human, music, music education, and artificial intelligence. Human action is required to allow a dao to function to its fullest. Different types of dao should be balanced and harmonized, while Dao is the overarching one for the universe. Human “greatness” and ethical tension are examined. Key principles of classic Confucianism and classic Daoism should be applied in support of a dao of artificial intelligence in music education. Like how human actions are needed to fulfill dao, AI is used to fulfill the forward motion of humanity. A dao of artificial intelligence (AI) in music education should be balanced and harmonized with other daos and be supportive of the overarching Dao. Suggestions are made for AI makers, music makers, music educators, and music learners.
