A Hydroflux Synthesis for Single Crystal α‐NaFeO 2 , β‐NaFeO 2 , and α‐Fe 2 O
Richard E. WilsonSodium‐containing transition metal oxides are candidates for earth‐abundant energy storage materials. Of particular interests are the FeO 6 containing layered α‐NaFeO 2 and FeO 4 wurtzite structure of β‐NaFeO 2 . Reported here is a synthetic route to both phases using a NaOH and KOH hydroflux containing an aqueous Fe(NO 3 ) 3 precursor. The reactions yield high‐quality single crystals of both phases, enabling the determination of the structure of α‐NaFeO 2 from single‐crystal X‐ray diffraction data for the first time.
